Ambassador Cao Zhongming Attends the Opening Ceremony of the 33rd Spring in the City & Happy Chinese New Year Event
On 27 January 2026, the 33rd Spring in the City & Happy Chinese New Year event kicked off at Suntec City, Singapore. Ambassador Cao Zhongming attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Counsellor Cai Shandi of the Embassy was also present. Former Minister of State Mr Chan Soo Sen, together with representatives from Singapore’s major Chinese communities and friendship associations were among the more than 100 participants of the event.

Ambassador Cao noted in his speech that the Chinese New Year is the most important traditional festival for all the ethnic Chinese. It not only carries forward the cherished traditions such as gratitude and appreciation of blessings, respect for elders and harmony among neighbours, but also embodies the cultural values of peace, amity and harmony deeply rooted in Chinese civilization. As a key cultural brand during the Chinese New Year celebrations in Singapore, the Spring in the City & Happy Chinese New Year event has played an active and important role in promoting people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between China and Singapore, as well as in enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

Activities under the 33rd Spring in the City event will run until 1 February, featuring a wide range of cultural performances and exhibitions of intangible cultural heritage at venues including Suntec City, the Capitol Theatre and the China Cultural Centre in Singapore.
