Li Keqiang Holds Talks with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore, Stressing that China Will Unswervingly Advance Reform and Opening up and Is Willing to Build a Community of Shared Interests and Future with the ASEAN

On the afternoon of April 8, 2018, Premier Li Keqiang held talks at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore, who was in China for a working visit.

Li Keqiang expressed that at present China-Singapore relations have enjoyed sustainable and stable development with the depth and width of cooperation in various fields being continuously expanded. China is willing to work with Singapore to further consolidate political mutual trust, and strengthen coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs, in a bid to push bilateral relations and practical cooperation for more in-depth development and elevate them to higher stages.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China and Singapore should give play to complementary advantages and deeply explore cooperation potentials to lead bilateral practical cooperation to develop at a higher level with higher quality. China is willing to integrate the Belt and Road Initiative with Singapore's development strategy, jointly promote the construction of the Southern Transport Corridor, consolidate existing cooperation mechanisms, deepen cooperation in major projects and key areas including infrastructure, connectivity and finance, expand cooperation in third-party markets, advance cooperation in defense as well as law enforcement and security, expand exchanges in such areas as education, media and think tanks, and facilitate personnel exchanges, so as to bring more tangible benefits to the two peoples.

Li Keqiang stressed that this year marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening up, the beginning of the second fifty years of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the 15th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN strategic partnership. Looking into the future, China will continue to deepen reform and expand opening up, and safeguard the global free trade system based on the rules of the World Trade Organization to promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation. China will benefit its neighboring countries through its own development and jointly build a community of shared interests and future with ASEAN countries including Singapore. China hopes Singapore, as the rotating presidency of the ASEAN and the country coordinator for China-ASEAN relations, will continuously play a constructive role in boosting China-ASEAN relations, jointly oppose all forms of protectionism and propel regional cooperation, so as to make contributions to realizing regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Lee Hsien Loong expressed that Singapore and China enjoy friendly relations, close bilateral exchanges, fruitful outcomes in economic and trade cooperation, as well as frequent personnel exchanges. Singapore is willing to strengthen the docking with China's development initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative, promote connectivity and reinforce cooperation in third-party markets to jointly boost regional development. As the rotating presidency of the ASEAN, Singapore stands ready to play a constructive role and actively push bilateral relations and ASEAN-China relations for new progress. As trade serves as the foundation of Singapore, the Singaporean side is willing to continue to support multilateral trade system and support a rules-based international order.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional topics of common interest.

After the talks, Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong jointly witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents in such fields as cooperation in third-party markets and people-to-people and cultural engagement.
