Remarks of the Chinese Embassy in Singapore on a Video Posted by the U.S. Embassy in Singapore
The Chinese Embassy in Singapore has noted that the U.S. Embassy in Singapore deliberately distorts the ins and outs of the South China Sea issue in a video posted on its Facebook page on May 20. Spokesperson of the Embassy made the following remarks as a response:
By putting its own priorities over international rules, habitually withdrawing from international conventions and organizations, bullying and coercing other countries on issues like tariffs, and publicly declaring seizing the control of the Panama Canal and Greenland, the U.S. wants to reimpose the law of the jungle where might makes right upon the rest of the world. What the U.S. has done is a body blow to the existing international order and rules, and that is why it is universally recognized that the U.S. is the least qualified to even talk about international law.
The U.S. somehow believes that as a country refuses to join the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, it has the privilege of microscoping other countries' compliance with the Convention. The U.S. has even deployed intermediate-range missile system in the region to stoke division and confrontation—this is the most destructive force to peace in the South China Sea. We urge the U.S. to stop being a hypocritical preacher and provocateur, and refrain from stirring up more troubles for peace and stability in the region.
Under joint efforts of China and ASEAN countries, the current situation in the South China Sea remains overall stable. China will continue working with all the ASEAN countries to uphold peace and stability in the South China Sea and promote regional prosperity.
