Chinese Embassy in Singapore Holds "Tea for Harmony—Yaji Cultural Salon" Shenshi Tea Ceremony
On May 9, the Chinese Embassy in Singapore held the "Tea for Harmony—Yaji Cultural Salon" Shenshi Tea Ceremony. Spouse of Chinese Ambassador Madam Yang Qing, and about 60 female guests including female ambassadors and spouses of diplomatic envoys and representatives from different sectors of Singapore attended the ceremony.
In her speech, Madam Yang Qing stated that this event is held in celebration of the International Tea Day. In traditional Chinese culture, tea is closely connected with harmony. Harmony embodies openness, inclusiveness, balance and unity of nature. Tea for Harmony encapsulates the profound wisdom of the East and embodies the true essence of civilization, which is to appreciate each other's beauty. The development of the tea industry is closely linked with women and plays a positive role in poverty alleviation and women's empowerment. As this year marks the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, China will once again host a global Leaders’ Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in Beijing to discuss with all sides the further development of women's cause globally.
Guests at the event experienced a traditional Chinese tea ceremony composed of seven cups of tea and enjoyed performances of tea art and Yu opera. They commended the beauty of Chinese tea culture and other traditional Chinese culture, and expressed their hope that the global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment will inject new momentum into the development of women's cause. Ambassador Cao Zhongming also met and talked with the guests after the event.
