Ambassador Sun Haiyan Calls on Singaporean Foreign Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan

On 9 June 2022, Ambassador Sun Haiyan called on Singaporean Foreign Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan.

Ambassador Sun thanked the Foreign Minister for receiving her introductory call soon after the presentation of her credentials. She said that since Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Singapore in 2015, bilateral cooperation has been growing in breath and depth and cooperation in emerging sectors developing in full swing, a testimony to the fact that China-Singapore relations are indeed “all-round” and “progressing with the times”. She also stressed that since the COVID-19 outbreak, leaders of the two countries have kept close communication trough various means and reached common understanding on further elevating bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels. She further emphasized that as Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, she will exert her utmost efforts to act on the important common understanding reached between leaders of the two countries, step up communication and enhance mutual understanding and trust, so as to facilitate further development of China-Singapore relations.

Minister Balakrishnan welcomed Ambassador Sun and said that Singapore-China relations are unique, important and excellent, something to be treasured and carefully looked after. He said that Singapore and China enjoy mutual trust, wide-ranging economic cooperation, frequent high-level exchanges and close people-to-people ties. He also highlighted that Singapore and China stood by each other during the COVID-19 pandemic, proving that a friend in need is a friend indeed. He emphasized that Singapore and China both strongly support the UN Charter and international law and uphold the principles of sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. He believed that Ambassador Sun will work with the Singaporean side in turning the common understanding of the leaders of the two countries into concrete actions and taking bilateral relations to greater heights.
