Ambassador Sun Haiyan Presents the Letter of Credence to President Halimah Yacob

On 31 May 2022, H.E. Sun Haiyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Singapore, presented the Letter of Credence to H.E. Halimah Yacob, President of the Republic of Singapore at the Istana.

President Halimah had a friendly meeting with Ambassador Sun, who conveyed the cordial greetings and best wishes from H.E. President Xi Jinping to Her Excellency.

Ambassador Sun said that China-Singapore relations are unique, important and precious. The two countries set an example of friendship and win-win cooperation between big and small countries as well as among neighboring countries. In 2015, President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Singapore, and together with Singaporean leaders, elevated bilateral ties to China-Singapore All-Round Cooperative Partnership Progressing with the Times. Under the guidance of the leaders of our two countries, bilateral cooperation across the board has yielded fruitful results. 

Ambassador Sun said that President Halimah went to China in February for the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and met with President Xi Jinping, during which the two leaders reached important common understanding on developing the bilateral relations in the post-COVID era. The two sides agreed to deepen and expand cooperation in various sectors and take bilateral ties to a higher level for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries and contributing to peace and development in the region. Ambassador Sun said that as the new Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, she will exert her best efforts to act on the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries to take China-Singapore relations forward. 

President Halimah welcomed Ambassador Sun and asked Ambassador Sun to convey her sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping. President Halimah fondly recalled her cordial meeting with President Xi Jinping when she went to China for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, and said that Singapore-China relations are built on solid foundations, with extensive cooperation in various areas and significant achievements in multiple mega-projects. President Halimah stressed that leaders of the two countries have reached important common understanding on the way forward for bilateral ties and charted a beautiful vision for the future. It is hoped that joint efforts will be made by both sides to turn the vision into reality.

Before presenting her credentials, Ambassador Sun Haiyan inspected the Guard-of-Honour.

Ambassador Sun Haiyan arrived in Singapore on 16 May, and presented the Copy of the Letter of Credence on 30 May.
