2022 China Tourism Day: 24-Hour LIVE Tour

May 19 marks the 12th China Tourism Day. A 24-hour livestream event will take worldwide audiences on a virtual journey throughout the country.

Under the theme of Experience Chinese culture, Enjoy a beautiful journey, the 24-hour LIVE event will cover a wide range of topics including Chinese culture and performing arts, Chinese cuisine, expats' travelogues in China, panda hot spots as well as how tourism has changed people's lives in rural places.

The event is supported by the Bureau of International Exchange and Cooperation of the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Take an online tour of the "Panda Kingdom" in Sichuan

Wolong National Nature Reserve, known as the "Panda Kingdom", is located in the high mountains of Southwest China's Sichuan province. It's a national comprehensive nature reserve that mainly protects rare wildlife and the alpine forest.

Wolong nature reserve has served as a protection area for pandas since 1963, the earliest of its kind in China. It was inscribed to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage list in 2006. Let's check out this unique habitat!

Taste authentic Chinese cuisine along the Grand Canal

Connecting Beijing in the north to Zhejiang province in the south, the Grand Canal has been running for more than 2,000 years. As a UNESCO world heritage site, it not only contributes to economic development but has also brought a bumper harvest of crops in areas along the canal.

In the short video series "Grand Canal Taking You Home", Italian chef Nino, who has been living in China for many years, assists Chen, editor of food magazine Gourmet, in writing a feature story on "The Taste of Home". They visit Chen's family along the canal to experience different Chinese flavors.

Nanjing brocade fashion show

As an age-old silk handicraft, Nanjing Yunjin brocade represents the highest achievement in silk weaving in China. The technique was once used to produce royal garments such as the dragon robe and crown costume. Today, it is still used to make high-end attire and keepsakes. In 2009, Nanjing Yunjin brocade was listed on UNESCO's representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity

Inheritors and designers in Nanjing never stop innovating their brocade techniques while passing down the art. They fuse tradition with fashion, aiming to explore modern expressions of the classic techniques.

Sichuan puppet show: Silk Road and Camel Bells

Giant puppetry in northern Sichuan province has a long history - more than 300 years - of using flexible shapes and vivid figures, resembling real people. The puppets can perform lively and meticulous movements. They can get dressed or undressed and even use swords or play musical instruments. The giant puppet show in Sichuan was listed as a national-level intangible cultural heritage in 2006.

The puppet show titled "Silk Road and Camel Bells" tells a story about pursuing dreams while on the ancient Silk Road. The general, Tang Hao, guarding the ancient Guo state, hopes to bring the silk from his hometown to the world; Alice, a Romanian princess, dreams to explore the mysterious Orient; while the white crane desires to take a look at the vast ocean. They unite together and strive to make their dreams a reality.

Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year, is the most important festival for Chinese people. The dinner on Spring Festival Eve is especially crucial, as it reunites all family members. This video shows how Lin Yuanyuan of East China's Nanjing, Jiangsu province, celebrates Spring Festival Eve with her family, which epitomizes typical Chinese traditions and customs for the biggest festival of the year.

Lin works away from home. On Spring Festival Eve, she traveled home to reunite with her family. Their festival activities start with shopping, cleaning and decorating the home, and making dumplings. They then enjoy the family reunion dinner while watching the annual Spring Festival gala together.
