Her Excellency Sun Haiyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Singapore arrived in Singapore on the evening of 16 May, 2022. Officials from the Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the senior diplomats from the Chinese Embassy in Singapore received Ambassador Sun at the Changi Airport. 

Ambassador Sun made the following remarks upon her arrival:“It gives me great pleasure to come to Singapore, the Lion City, as Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Singapore. Singapore is a shining pearl at the intersection of maritime routes across the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Hardworking and intelligent Singaporeans, with their unremitting efforts, have created the world-renowned ‘Singapore Miracle’. China and Singapore are friendly neighbors facing each other across the sea. Singapore has been deeply involved in China’s development since China’s reform and opening up. In 2015, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Singapore, and together with the Singaporean leaders, steered bilateral relations toward a new era featuring all-round cooperation progressing with the times. Since then, our strategic mutual trust has strengthened, concrete cooperation expanded, and development interests more closely aligned to the benefit of not only the peoples of our two countries, but also the region and beyond. 

During the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics this February, President Xi Jinping met with President Halimah Yacob. The two leaders reached important consensus on the development of bilateral relations, emphasizing that in the face of once-in-a-century changes and pandemic in the world, China and Singapore should deepen strategic communication, forge closer synergy of development strategies, strengthen the role of New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor in supporting development in the region and bolster international and multilateral cooperation. In doing so, China-Singapore relations will develop further and our two countries will be able to contribute more to prosperity and development in the region and peace and stability in the world. This shall be my mission as Chinese Ambassador to Singapore. I look forward to working with friends from all walks of life in Singapore in joint efforts to build on past achievements and break new ground! ”

Her Excellency Sun Haiyan is the 12th Chinese Ambassador to Singapore.
